Do you charge for your service? Yes charges are based on the level of care provided as a base rate. Loaded miles are also charged for on the trip to the destination. There is also a charge for disposable equipment that is used on any call.
Does Siouxland Paramedics submit claims to insurance companies? Yes, Siouxland Paramedics submit claims to all private insurance companies as well as Medicare and Medicaid.
What do I do if I have Medicare and they deny the claim submitted buy Siouxland Paramedics? Siouxland Paramedics accepts Medicare assignment. This basically means that we accept whatever Medicare will pay for a specific claim. If Medicare refuses to pay the claim, payment becomes the responsibility of the patient or person carrying the insurance.

If I am financially unable to pay all or part of my bill, will Siouxland Paramedics work with me on a payment plan? Yes we will be happy to, although some restrictions may apply.
General Questions:
How many ambulances are there working in the city? During peak call volume hours there are 4 ambulances on the street. Siouxland Paramedics never has less than 2 ambulances working with a 3rd ambulance on-call at any time.
Does the ambulance come from one of the hospitals? No, the ambulances are stationed at strategic locations throughout the city based on call volume coming from that area and also response time to specific areas.
Does Siouxland Paramedics respond just in the Sioux Citylimits? No, Siouxland Paramedics responds to calls wherever we are requested within reason. This includes DakotaCountyNebraska, UnionCountySouth Dakota, and Plymouthand WoodburyCountiesin Iowa. Siouxland Paramedics also has a station in Akron, Iowathat is staffed by Volunteers. We also manage a service for the City of Mapleton, Iowa.
How long does it take to become a paramedic? In most cases it will take you at least one year to become a Paramedic. It all depends on the prerequisites of the training center you attend.
Are you part of the local Fire Department? No, however Siouxland Paramedics enjoys a strong and lengthy working relationship with the Sioux CityFire Department as well as many rural volunteer fire departments in the area.
Can I choose which hospital I want to go to? In almost all cases you can decide which Sioux CityHospitalyou want to go to. However in some cases you may be transported to a specific hospital based on the severity of your injuries or illness.
How is the ambulance service in Sioux CityFunded?Siouxland Paramedics is a non profit corporation. Meaning that we do not operate for a profit and have no share holders. We operate strictly off of reimbursement for services rendered. Siouxland Paramedics is operated under the guidance of Health Inc, which is a governing board of both hospitals in Sioux City.
